Elderly cricket spectator killed by falling tree at Gracedale Park in Melbourne

Watching a local cricket match in the afternoon turned into tragedy on Saturday when an old man was killed by a falling tree.

According to Victoria Police, the incident happened around 3pm at Gracedale Park in Ringwood, in Melbourne’s east-east.

“It appears a tree fell on the man in Gracedale Park just after 3pm,” a police spokesman said.

“Emergency services attended to the man but unfortunately he died at the scene.”

The man was identified as a 91-year-old spectator who was not a member of Ainslie Park Cricket Club, who played the game on Saturday, but stopped to watch with his family, the Herald Sun reported.

Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
