West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose took strong exception to the statements made by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, saying “weapons and ammunition were distributed at Raj Bhavan” and encouraged MPs and civil court members to visit Raj Bhawan on Sunday, November 16, 2025, to verify the allegations.
A statement from the Raj Bhawan on Saturday evening, November 15, 2025, said, “Raj Bhavan is open for MPs and members of civil society and journalists not exceeding 100 in number to visit the Raj Bhavan from 5 am tomorrow (Sunday) and check whether any arms and ammunition are stocked as claimed by the MP.” he said.
Raj Bhavan also added that if the allegations are found to be untrue, “the MP has a reasonable option to apologize to the people of Bengal and face prosecution for hate speech.”
The statement added that since the Kolkata Police were guarding the Raj Bhavan, “there may be an immediate investigation into how they allegedly allowed weapons and ammunition to be brought into the Raj Bhavan, which posed a threat to the Governor and the Raj Bhavan staff, who were under Z plus category security.”
According to an official of Raj Bhavan, the Governor’s security guards advised him to leave the Raj Bhavan to a safe place until the investigation of illegal arms and ammunition is completed. “But the Governor said that I will be at Raj Bhavan no matter what,” the official said.
The Trinamool Congress MP made an unprecedented attack on the Governor, alleging that the Governor “entertained BJP criminals at Raj Bhavan and gave them arms and ammunition to attack TMC workers”.
“Tell Bengal Governor not to host BJP criminals in Raj Bhavan. He keeps them there and gives them arms and ammunition to attack TMC workers. As long as such a governor is in office, nothing good will happen in Bengal,” the Sreerampur MP said.
Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan also “requested the Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha to conduct an inquiry into the matter in view of serious allegations being made by the Member of Lok Sabha”.
Differences between Raj Bhavan, Kolkata and Trinamool Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, have surfaced in the past too, but Mr Kalyan Banerjee’s allegations that Raj Bhavan is carrying guns have no precedent even in the politically charged atmosphere of West Bengal.
