Bangladesh to buy 40,000 body cameras for February election

Bangladesh’s temporary government plans to provide the police to provide at least 40,000 bodies of camera to increase security in voting cabins in the general elections to be held in February.

“We aim to supply Bodycams until October so that police officers can get adequate training on their basic features, including AI capabilities.”


Bangladesh officials approached three companies from Germany, China and Thailand to supply cameras. Police officers and police officers will wear the devices in their chests while they are election. Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus instructed the authorities to accelerate supply and provide appropriate training for thousands of police staff.

During the meeting, the Chief Advisor announced his plans to launch an election application for the upcoming vote, the Special Assistant of the Telecommunications and Lice Works.

The application will provide comprehensive information about the February elections, including the candidate details, updates related to voting cabins and interactive features to send complaints.

The Chief Advisor urged the authorities to quickly monitor the launch of the application and make the country’s user -friendly for more than 100 million voters.

In accordance with this, he wrote to the Chief Advisor Office Election Commission on 6 August and instructed him to complete all preparations to make national parliamentary elections before the start of Ramadan in February 2026.

Thanks to this letter, he added that the formalities of the government’s request to regulate elections have been completed to the election commission.

In a letter sent to the Chief Election Commissioner on Wednesday, Chief Counselor Chief Secretary M. Siraj Uddin Mia asked him to take the necessary steps to organize free, fair, peaceful and festive national elections in the expected quality time.

In his speech to the nation on 5 August on the July 5th day, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus said he would write to the Election Commission to organize the elections before the start of Ramadan in February next year. Subsequently, the chief advisor office sent this letter on Wednesday.
