The former US president’s spokesman said in a statement on Saturday morning that Joe Biden received radiation treatment for prostate cancer, which was diagnosed in May.

“As part of his prostate cancer treatment plan, President Biden is currently receiving radiation therapy and hormone therapy,” the spokesperson said. first reported by NBC.

Biden’s spokesman told NBC that the new round of treatment is expected to span a five-week period, marking a new point in the former president’s care. As he had previously stated publicly when asked about his illness in the spring, he was already taking hormone medication in pill form.

His personal office announced that Biden was diagnosed in May with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. The Democrat left the White House in January after Republican Donald Trump became the 47th president of the United States following his 2024 election victory.

Biden first spoke publicly about his diagnosis in late May, saying he was optimistic about the course of the disease and that “our expectation is that we can beat this.”

The president returned home to Delaware after the end of his only term in office and will turn 83 next month.

In September, he underwent a procedure known as Mohs surgery to remove cancerous cells from his skin.
