Plan for 15 luxury lodges at motorsport team’s HQ
Luxury lodges are planned for the home of World Rally champion M-Sport.
Members of Cumberland Council’s planning committee are expected to give approval to the project at Dovenby Hall, near Cockermouth, on July 15 despite objections.
The motorsport business said 15 lodges on the former hospital site would provide short-term accommodation for events at the Dovenby Estate.
Ward councilor Martin Harris raised a number of concerns about the application, including flood risk, noise, increased traffic, impact on the natural environment and impact on a nearby listed building.
according to Local Democracy Reporting Service, The land extends to approximately 45 hectares (111 acres) and is located next to the village of Dovenby.
It is 2.5 miles (4 km) northwest of the center of Cockermouth.
However, since it is outside any defined settlement boundaries, it is considered “open rural area”.
Five objections were received, with concerns about overdevelopment, the wrong type of accommodation and the availability of other established holiday units in the area that might appeal to the proposed market.

The site includes a 1.6-mile (2.5 km) test track, assessment centre, modern workshops, offices and facilities for events, built around historic original buildings including Dovenby Hall and Pele Tower.
The proposals state the cottages would be clad in timber and sited around a winding access road off the A594 surrounding the proposed water feature.
Two of the lodges will have a hot tub.
New planting is proposed between the lodge pitches and each pitch is proposed to have two car park areas with electric charging points.
It was recommended that the application be accepted subject to conditions.
