Chief Minister Stalin announces Kalaignar Ninaivu Kalaithurai Vithagar award for film veterans M.N. Rajam and S.P. Muthuraman

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced on Friday: Kalaignar Ninaivu Kalaithurai Vithagar The 2024 and 2025 awards will be given to veteran actor MN Rajam and veteran filmmaker SP Muthuraman respectively.

Rajam is one of the senior artists of Tamil cinema, who started his acting career in stage plays at a young age and made his film debut as a child artist in 1949. She became the leading heroine in the 1950s and 1960s, gaining wide recognition for her performances in many successful films, including: Rathakkanneer, Pennin Perumai, Pudhaiyal, thangapathumai, Nadodi Mannan, pashamas, Thaali Baakiyam And Mangaiyar Thilakam.

The actress, who appeared in more than 200 Tamil films, later gained a permanent place in the hearts of the audience by taking on supporting roles such as mother and mother-in-law. Her mother’s roles in films are as follows: arangetram And Oorukku Uzhaippavan, is particularly remembered. She is also the first registered woman member of the South Indian Artists Guild and has received many awards for her long service to the field of art, an official statement said.

Both the awardees will be given a cash prize of ₹ 10 lakh along with a souvenir from the Prime Minister, the statement said.
