A heartwarming military homecoming is gaining attention online after a serving sister gives her graduating brother the surprise of a lifetime.
Kalen Barksdale began walking across the stage to receive his diploma from Milwaukee Lutheran High School in Wisconsin, but a school official stopped to tell him it wasn’t there.
Initially horrified, Barksdale soon realized that his diploma was there and that his sister, Mauriana, who was serving overseas, had arrived to deliver it.

“My first reaction was embarrassment because this is such a huge milestone to achieve…” Kalen said, describing the surprise on “Fox & Friends.”
Concerns turned to bewilderment when Kalen learned that this failure was “preparation for something bigger.”

Mauriana walked down the aisle to the cheers and applause of the crowd while holding Kalen’s diploma. The brothers hugged warmly when they met.
“A lot of things were going through my mind at the time,” Mauriana recalled.
“[I was] I’m so grateful that I was able to come home because there was a chance I wouldn’t be here at that time…”
