Question Time audience member explodes at Starmer and Reeves – ‘Picking our pockets’ | Politics | News

A Question Time audience member angrily attacked panel members during the debate over the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves. The BBC program discussed whether the Prime Minister and Chancellor should resign if they fail to meet their tax commitments in the Autumn Budget. In the middle of this speech, a member of the audience questions which party he can trust after feeling betrayed by both the Conservatives and Labor.

The retired police officer said he had seen his pay decrease year by year due to the Conservatives and their austerity policies. But he said the economy was still not improving in the meantime and Labor was now “picking your pockets”. He asked: “How can I trust any of you?”

Tonight’s episode featured Labor leader Anna Turley MP, former Tory energy minister Graham Stuart, TUC general secretary Paul Nowak and Daily Telegraph columnist Tim Stanley.

Guests also discussed recent incidents of accidental releases of prisoners, about which Mr Stuart accused the Government of being “dishonest”. “Something has gone terribly wrong” since Labor came to power, he said.

Ms Turley said the “chaos” in the system “has been going on for some time” and called for an “urgent review” of erroneous publications.

He said: “This seems like another rock we’ve picked up and there’s such a mess underneath that we need to figure it out.”

Two men were mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth recently: sex offender Brahim Kaddour-Cherif and fraudster William Smith.

Kaddour-Cherif, an Algerian man, was released on October 29 after being convicted of indecent exposure in November 2024. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for five years.

Smith surrendered himself on Thursday following a 45-month prison sentence at Croydon Crown Court on Monday for multiple fraud offences.
