Cong Followed Clear Process in Kerala CM Selection

– Kottayam: Senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Thursday appreciated the party’s High Command for adopting a clear process to elect Kerala’s next Chief Minister. Talking to reporters, Radhakrishnan, an elected legislator from Kottayam, said that the High Command listened to everyone and Rahul Gandhi was directly involved in the process.

Radhakrishnan said, “This is a clear process that no one can question. Only such a process can be followed in democracies. For this, I express my happiness to the High Command.” he said.

He said confusion is natural when choosing a leader among multiple names.

“It cannot be said that in a democratic party, everyone should have the same opinion. Here, the Congress party has a coordination power, and that is its leadership. The party leadership has adopted all the processes, including the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting, meetings in New Delhi and further discussions. After all the processes, the leadership will announce its final decision,” he said.

He said although the CLP gave the final decision to the High Command, detailed discussions were held later.

Radhakrishnan said he would support any decision even if the name he suggested was not approved.

“As a party man, it is my duty to obey my High Command,” he said.

He said once the CLP leader is elected, a letter should be given to the Governor to invite a person to form the government.

“As part of the process, a letter from the MPs who support the front to form the government or the leader of the relevant party must be submitted to the Governor,” he said.

Regarding NSS general secretary G Sukumaran’s criticism that UDF ally India Union Muslim League was interfering in Congress matters over the Prime Minister election, Radhakrishnan said he did not want to spark a controversy at this point.

“I never thought that the NSS general secretary took a wrong stand. If he took a stand, there could be valid reasons for it. But the Congress is adopting a process that we approve,” he said.

He added that the decision regarding the oath ceremony will be taken after the Governor invites the front to form the government.
