Man charged with manslaughter as Durham assault turns deadly

A 28-year-old Ajax man has been charged with manslaughter after a fatal assault over the weekend.

Durham Regional Police said they responded to calls about a fight Saturday just before midnight in the Colborne St. E.-Green St. area of Whitby, where they located a man who had been assaulted.

The victim, who was identified as Thomas Holm, 24, of Whitby, later succumbed to his injuries at a local trauma centre.
Austin Hill was found at his residence in Ajax and arrested before being charged with manslaughter.
It was the sixth homicide of 2025 in Durham Region.
2 CHARGED WITH ROBBERY IN ROLEX HEIST
A man and a woman have been charged with robbery after an elderly person was targeted last month in a distraction theft in Scarborough.
Toronto Police said they responded to an assault call Sept. 16 at about 4:20 p.m. in the Eglinton-Pharmacy Aves. area, where a senior was allegedly targeted in their vehicle with an offer of money in exchange for the victim’s watch.

The victim declined before a thief allegedly removed the victim’s Rolex, causing injuries to their arm and hand, and fled in a dark van.
Ion Stan, 39, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery and three counts of failure to comply with a recognizance.
Armeanca Fardi, 25, of Toronto, is also charged with robbery, failure to comply with a probation order and four counts of failure to comply with a release order.

ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE AFTER BUS STABBING
A 31-year-old man allegedly tried to kill a victim in stabbing last week on a Brampton bus, according to Peel Regional Police.
Two men got into a fight on a bus Wednesday at about 9:30 p.m. in the Bramalea Rd.-Bovaird Dr. area before the victim, a man in his 20s, was attacked with an edged weapon, said officers.
Police said the victim was stabbed “multiple” times and seriously injured, although his wounds were not life threatening.
The suspect, who did not know the victim, fled on foot.
Harpreet Singh, of Brampton, faces charges, including attempted murder.
