Brightline Says Freight Rail Suit Won’t Thwart Florida Project

(Bloomberg) – General Manager of Brightlıine, in a call with investors on Friday, the case against the private train operator Brightsine, the case of a load railway, a suburban railway project planned in Southern Florida will not remove the rail.
Florida East Coast railway, which operates in the same corridor as Brighsine, filed a lawsuit on the passenger railway in July and claimed that the company and the three districts had secret negotiations and that the current infrastructure could not support more passenger traffic.
85 miles (137 kilometers) “Coastal connection” suburban rail would pass through the Miami-Paper, Broward and Palm Beach districts in the common corridor. Brighttine, which has exclusive rights to operate passenger trains in the corridor, would receive rent payments to re -finance the $ 985 million debt, which has a return of 15% from the districts.
BrighsLine negotiates access and development agreements with districts and expects to make an agreement with Miami-time in the coming months, and then Broward Patrick Goddard, CEO of Brights.
“We believe that these allegations are unfair and that these agreements provide a clear right to facilitate the suburban service to Brightsine and to increase the frequency of passenger train,” Goddard said. “Even if Fecr reigns, we believe that there are alternative ways to present the same suburban projects significantly within the scope of operative agreements.”
According to an update from the company, Brighttline made a move to reject the case and force the arbitration. A hearing was held on November 13th.
Federal, state and local governments share the cost of the coastal connection.
The first $ 930 million phase of the project in Miami-Paid County will create a quick transit route to the West Aventura Station about 15 miles north of the Miami Central Station in Miami city center. The stage would add five stations to Wynwood, Design Zone, Little Haiti, North Miami Beach and Florida International University’s North Campus.
For the Miami-time stage, Finance took an obstacle in June when Florida shifted $ 200 million to other infrastructure projects. Goddard said he expects deputies to address the funds for the project in the next legislative session that started in January.
“The status of local and federal funds has not changed for projects,” he said.
