Queensland Health Minister Tim Nicholls said that there will be no last -minute negotiations with state nurses and midwives in front of the planned industrial action today.

Last week, unionized nurses and midwives employed by Queensland Health voted to take the second -stage industrial action on the ongoing wage negotiations with the state government.

On Monday, when I was asked if LNP was asked to think about last -minute negotiations to prevent such disruptions, Nicholls postponed a direct intervention, instead of the government.[s] on the table ”.

“I walk in hospitals for the last three or four weeks and talk to nurses and midwives working in the last three or four weeks, and I know they are definitely focusing on the patients there.”

“We really understand and that’s why we want to get this result, and that’s why we continue to deal with nurses and midwives, they are good people and they do it for the right reasons… So we want to do it right.”

Queensland Health and Queensland Nurses and Midwives Union came together 36 times since the negotiations began, but could not reach an agreement.

The Union of Nurses rejected the government’s proposal of an increase of 11 percent for three years, and instead requesting an increase of 13 percent in the same period and additional issues in recruitment and retention.
