Police issue major arrest update as teen fights for life after UK city shooting | UK | News

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder following a shooting that left a 16-year-old boy fighting for his life.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: “A teenager has been arrested and remains in custody following the shooting of a boy in Sheffield. “We are determined to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting of a 16-year-old boy on London Road and while our investigation continues apace, officers have made an arrest.

“The 15-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of attempted murder. We responded to reports of an armed attack in the city center at 17.15 yesterday (November 24).

“The victim was taken to hospital and is in critical condition. We are committed to getting justice for the victim and ensuring dangerous criminals are kept off our streets, but while we can be everywhere, we can’t be everywhere and we know the answers lie in our communities.”

“London Road was busy at the time of yesterday’s incident during rush hour and with people returning home or visiting local businesses.”

Sheffield Superintendent Martin Simcock said: “Gun crime and violent crime have no place in South Yorkshire and the sight of a young boy fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated. “Detectives, officers and forensics were in the area today collecting evidence, but we need your help.

“No matter how little you believe you have information, this may be the missing piece we need. This child and his family deserve answers, and we are committed to getting them.”

South Yorkshire Police are now urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch online, via live chat or by calling 101 quoting incident number 640 of 24 November 2025. The incident led to the temporary closure of a number of businesses while police investigations were carried out.

Dari Saleh, owner of a Marmaris Turkish restaurant, told the BBC: “We work here all day and evening and then something happens, we’re scared, we’re scared of our customers, we’re scared of our work, you don’t feel safe.”

Abdurrhman Gurner, owner of Bodrum Barber on London Road, added: “It’s a bit frightening to think that the city is getting worse every day.

“As a business owner, we think things are going to get worse, are people worried about coming here?”
