Lawyers’ union condemns use of Bharat Mata portrait at Governor’s High Court event

The All India Lawyers Association has asked the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court to take strict action against those responsible for displaying the portrait of Bharat Mata during a program attended by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the high court auditorium on Tuesday.

The display of Bharat Mata’s portrait at the event organized by the Sangh Parivar’s Bharatheeya Abhibhashaka Parishad was a challenge to the Constitution. In a correspondence by CM Nazar, secretary of the union’s Supreme Court unit, it was claimed that the incident showed attempts to bile even the area where the upper echelons of the judiciary are located.

The union condemned the use of the courtroom for the event, which was attended by the Governor, who had earlier tried to usher in extreme Hindutva reforms at the Raj Bhavan. It was stated that such incidents would shake the confidence in the secular reputation of the judiciary.

The Supreme Court lawyers committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India also condemned the incident. It was stated that a complaint would be filed with the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court and the State Election Commission.
