Two MAGA Women Quit Within Minutes of Each Other

MAGA women are fleeing DC in droves.

New York congresswoman and MAGA darling Elise Stefanik shocked the political world on Friday by announcing she was leaving politics. Less than 30 minutes earlier, Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis had done the same thing.

Stefanik’s announcement is the most surprising of the two. The 41-year-old congressman was a rising star in MAGA circles and was seen as a key to winning the June 2026 GOP primary in New York’s gubernatorial race.

“While I spend precious time with my family this Christmas season, I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for Governor and will not seek re-election to Congress,” he wrote. long X text.

Stefanik stated that she withdrew from politics to spend more time with her 4-year-old son Sam.

“Although many people know me as a member of Congress, my most important title is mother,” she said. “I believe that being a parent is life’s greatest gift and greatest responsibility. I have thought deeply about this, and I know that as a mother, I would deeply regret it if I did not focus more on the safety, growth, and happiness of my little boy, especially at this young age.”

Stefanik has represented New York’s 21st district, which covers the state’s Republican-dominated upstate region, since 2015.

Although he was initially elected as a moderate Republican, he moved hard to the right during his time in Congress and became one of Trump’s most ardent supporters.

He has been endorsed by Trump to replace Liz Cheney as Chairman of the House Republican Conference in 2021. He held the post until January 2025, when Trump nominated him to be the US ambassador to the United Nations. In March, Trump withdrew his candidacy, saying he needed the nomination in the House of Representatives, where Republicans have a slim majority.

In November, Stefanik announced she would run for governor of New York to unseat incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul. by December survey in Siena He held a large lead over fellow Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in the race, but trailed Hochul by 19 points in a potential head-to-head matchup.

Stefanik’s announcement came three days after the survey was released.

Trump, 79, mourns the loss of one of his champions Real Social.

“Elise is a tremendous talent no matter what she does. She will have HUGE success and I’m with her all the way!” the president wrote.

By contrast, Lummis’ retirement isn’t as surprising as Stefanik’s, and it didn’t warrant a Truth Social send-off from the president.

Lummis, 71, said: announcement letter He said he decided not to seek re-election because he felt he didn’t have “six more years” left. When he runs for election in 2026, he will have served one term in the Senate. Before serving as a senator, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2009 to 2017.

Lummis, once an advocate of absolute free speech, changed his mind after the death of Charlie Kirk and subsequent withdrawal from the airwaves over Jimmy Kimmel’s comment that MAGA was desperate to portray Kirk’s assassin Tyler Robinson as a non-MAGA.

Lummis didn’t even steal the spotlight for half an hour before Stefanik eclipsed her.

Stefanik and Lummis are two more Republicans to leave Congress following the shocking resignation of longtime MAGA loyalist-turned-foe Marjorie Taylor Greene. In the weeks following Greene’s announcement, an anonymous senior GOP lawmaker warned that more surprising departures would follow.

“More explosive early resignations are coming,” the MP said in November. “This is a firebox. Morale has never been lower. Mike Johnson will be stripped of the gavel and they will lose the majority before this term is over.”
