England is preparing for a new cold spell after the explosion in the North Pole at the weekend, causing the temperature to drop to -5C. Parts of Britain will have a very cold start to December, according to the latest weather models compiled by WX Charts; On 30 November the mercury will drop into the negatives as far south as London as the cold snap is felt across the UK.
Most of the icy weather will remain in Scotland and the north of England; Areas in the Highlands and Aberdeen will reach lows of -5C, but much of the region will drop to -2C as the blast spreads across the country. Snow is also expected in Scotland, but there could also be some showers as we head south towards the capital. Later tonight, WX Charts predicts white goods will fall in parts of London, as well as Reading in the west and parts of Surrey in the south.
Showers may be short-lived and prevent any layers from forming, but temperatures will remain low around 2 degrees.
Forecasters at the Met Office also warn snowfall could be slightly milder for a few days with a drastic change.
Meteorologist Alex Burkill said in his forecast: “The weather is quite mild at the moment compared to how we started the week, so you might be surprised to hear that there is a chance of some more snow again over this weekend.
“We’re ready for something a little quieter as we move from Saturday night into Sunday.
“By that I mean some dry, clear weather, but also the potential for pretty low temperatures.
“Sunday brings drier, brighter, sunnier weather for most, but it’s also a bit cooler. Temperatures look set to be a few degrees cooler than Saturday… Cool feeling for sure.”
Its long-range forecast also warns of some cold conditions as Monday marks the beginning of meteorological winter.
He says: “The highest chances of snow will be in the higher elevations in the north. “Given the prevailing low pressure, strong winds are also likely to occur at times.
“Overall temperatures are forecast to be close to average, although cooler conditions may occasionally affect northern areas.
“Some frost can be expected where drier, clearer conditions occur overnight.”
