Communities fighting to preserve their heritage
According to the Victoria inheritance database, the old Goulburn River Bridge had a 105 -meter -long timber deck.
The bridge was initially built in 1862 and 30 years later it took its place with a new wooden bridge. The inheritance list said that the bridge was unusual due to the use of gray box timets and was the last “Big River Lumber Bridge” before an economic depression in 1893.

“When it was opened in 1892, it was accepted as a superior and exaggerated expensive structure,” the list says. “The old Goulburn River bridge is aesthetically important for the elegant wooden structure and the domestic shrub on the wide Goulburn River.”
It was closed to traffic in 1987 and was used as part of a walking track until it was completely closed.

More recently, Seymour resident and bridge campaignist Carolynne Burgess Blackwell said that the council has raised the deck of the bridge as part of the canceled restoration project.
Before he was closed to traffic, he was drilled from the bridge countless times when he was a child. Burgess Blackwell said the bridge is an important part of Seymour’s legacy.
He argued that a restored bridge could encourage the town’s economy and help to create a part of a walking and bicycle trail.
“Seymour is not a rich town and a bridge, donation gathering activities and bringing tourist dollars, Bur Burgess Blackwell said.
He also wants the Council to be held responsible for the money it violates the contract.
“This is the community money they waste to get anything.”
Burgess Blackwell said the community collected $ 100,000 for the restoration of bridge in 2010.

“He really described how much the bridge restoration of the community is and what it can mean for our future.”
Last month, the Council allocated $ 150,000 for waterproofing works to maintain the current structure.
Seymour History Association President Geoff Halpin said that if the bridge is reopened by the bridge, the popular tourism town of Seymour could go more safely to Nagambie.
He said that people who camp on the north of the Goulburn River can easily walk to Seymour’s city center through a restored bridge to help the local economy.

In Kilcunda on the Bass coast, the local council has recently voted to destroy an old railway bridge that has not been in service for nearly 50 years. Unlike the Bourne Creek Testle Bridge, who looked at the ocean in Kilcunda, the viaduct bridge was not rejuvenated and fell to be abandoned.
A Bass Coast Council meeting agenda mentioned an engineering assessment that found that the bridge was “extremely bad ından since 2021.
“The structure was preserved for aesthetic value, but it is not preserved as a functioning bridge,” he said.
Wayne Jennings, a resident in the fifth generation clay, still remembers trains traveling from the bridge and standing in Kilcunda.

He said that a restored bridge could be the center of a park with screens explaining its place in the history of the building.
“This is a shame,” he said.
Bass Coast Shire confirmed that the Viaduct Bridge was built in 1910 and the administration was delivered to the council 20 years ago. The Council said that a part of the bridge collapsed last year and that restore would cost $ 2 million.
A petition to protect the bridge collected more than 1200 signatures. However, Bass Coast Mayor Rochelle Hallstead said that the restoration is not safe or applicable.

Uz We know that many people in the community of this bridge are more than wooden and bolts – he represents a visual turning point, which is part of his childhood memories, local heritage and the character of the town, ”he said.
Jennings said the Viaduct Bridge should be restored with the coffee table more than 15 years ago.
But it seems that it would be a very distant bridge.
