Senate crypto bill would ban federal officials from issuing digital assets

Under newly updated legislation the Senate is considering, presidents and other federal officials would be barred from issuing or sponsoring cryptocurrencies and other digital assets.
Republicans on Wednesday updated an already-under-consideration measure known as the Openness Act, which would be the first major legislation regulating digital assets. CNBC has obtained the bill, which now includes the first limits on how presidents can profit from crypto.
