Australia vs England fourth test day 2 cricket scores, results, start time, wickets, teams, how to watch, Boxing Day Test, MCG

With a huge crowd expected to fill the MCG on the second day of the Boxing Day Test, Josh Tongue will start today with a hat-trick.

Tongue nailed the last two wickets of Australia’s first innings with successive balls, bowling Michael Neser and then slipping Scott Boland for a golden duck. He took 5-45 in the shooting.

Travis Head will be on strike if he bowls the first over and the second over today.

But if he wins the second round of the morning he will be presented with a rare opportunity: he can take Boland out twice in his three hat-tricks.

This is every possibility. The grass-topped pitch offered more lateral movement than a crab-filled beach yesterday, and experts are predicting another challenging deck today.

Fans were surprised when England captain Ben Stokes handed the ball to Gus Atkinson in the final over of the day last night – Boland survived all six balls – while many thought Tongue should have been given the nod.
