An armed attacker wielding an AK-47 Kalashnikov was caught on CCTV entering a supermarket, to the horror of shoppers and staff. The shooter began firing a volley of bullets before terrified onlookers ran for their lives.
Miraculously, no one was injured during this terrible incident and the police managed to subdue and neutralize him. Police officers arrived at the scene following a report of a hidden store alarm set off by a staff member. The incident took place on Christmas Day in the Petrovsky district of Ukraine’s occupied Donetsk.
It was later revealed that the attacker was a war veteran who served in the Russian army.
Eyewitnesses said they realized something was wrong and their lives were in grave danger.
“People ran for the exit, so I jumped out and ran to the supply room,” one staff member said. “Voices [of gunshots] “He kept repeating it.”
A sales assistant added: “Police officers arrived very quickly and managed to disarm this man. They then actually sorted out the situation. Only after this did they call us and tell us we could go out.”
It was reported that the gunman did not shoot at people during the attack, but instead targeted supermarket shelves.
The footage shows him shooting in the alcohol section and next to shelves of spaghetti, rice and sugar.
Later footage shows the moment police officers arrived at the scene and a police officer fired a gun at the attacker.
“One of the officers opened fire with a gun at the attacker, then ran towards him and managed to subdue him,” a police spokesman said.
It is not yet known whether the attacker was injured in the conflict.
