Alleged Assassin Tyler Robinson Said He Had the ‘Opportunity to Take Out Charlie Kirk’ in Letter: Reports

Kirk was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, while speaking at a Turning Point USA event held on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah.
Newly unsealed court documents reportedly reveal that Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin Tyler Robinson said he had an “opportunity” to assassinate the conservative activist.
Authorities accuse Robinson of killing Kirk while the right-wing political activist was speaking at a Turning Point USA event on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025.
On the day of the shooting, Robinson’s partner allegedly received a text from Robinson saying “stop what you’re doing, look under my keyboard,” according to a search warrant affidavit included in unsealed court documents. ABC News reports.
Robinson’s partner told police he found a handwritten letter under the keyboard. Police said the partner viewed the photo of the letter.
According to ABC News and local media, the letter began: “If you’re reading this based on my message, I’m very sorry. I left home this morning on an assignment and sent an automated message. I’m probably dead or facing a long prison sentence.” KUTV And ABC4.
“I had the opportunity to take on Charlie Kirk and I took it,” Robinson wrote. “I don’t know if/if I made it, but I was hoping to return home.”

“I wish we could live in a world where this wasn’t deemed necessary,” Robinson wrote. “I wish I could stay for you and live our lives together. I lack the words to express how much I love you and how much you mean to me. Please try to find joy in this life. I love you always, -Tyler.”
While he was being searched for Robinson, who escaped from the scene of the crime, he texted his partner and reported that he started to worry. Salt Lake Tribune Reports also refer to the unsealed search warrant.
“I have no intention of using drugs in the courts before the country,” Robinson wrote.
On the evening of September 11, Robinson surrendered to authorities. he was charged aggravated murder, criminal use of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and committing a violent crime in front of a child.

Robinson’s next hearing is scheduled for April 17, where the defense and prosecution will argue over permission to use cameras in the courtroom throughout his trial.
