Peeyush Pandey is new acting West Bengal DGP, major rejig ahead of Assembly polls

In a major reshuffle in the West Bengal police, senior IPS officer Peeyush Pandey has been appointed as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal.

Mr. Pandey, a 1993-batch batch officer, will take over as State DGP after incumbent Rajeev Kumar retires on January 31. The change comes months ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma has been appointed as the Director of Security, West Bengal, while Supratim Sarkar, ADG and IGP of South Bengal, will take over as Kolkata Police Commissioner.

Vineet Kumar Goyal has been posted as ADG and IGP, STF, ADG (Law and Order), West Bengal additionally as ADG, Anti-Corruption Bureau, while Jawed Shamim has been posted as ADG and IGP (Law and Order), ADG, Special Task Force (STF) and additionally as ADG, Intelligence Branch.

Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Tripathi has been appointed as Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore, in the rank of IG, while Murli Dhar, Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore, has been appointed as Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar, also in the rank of IG.

Chandannagar Police Commissioner Amit P Javalgi has been appointed as IGP in Burdwan Range. Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Mukesh has been posted as IGP, Murshidabad and Jangipur Range, while Syed Waquar Raza has been transferred as DIG, Murshidabad Range, DIG, Nadia and Ranaghat.

Akash Magharia, DIG, Presidency Range, has been appointed as Commissioner of Police, Howrah, in the rank of DIG, while Bhaskar Mukherjee, DIG, Barasat Range, has been appointed as DIG, Presidency Range. Sundarban Police District Superintendent of Police Koteswara Rao has been appointed as Chandannagar Police Commissioner in the rank of Police Commissioner.
