Tamil Nadu must be ruled from Fort St George, not Delhi: Stalin

Chennai: Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Wednesday said the upcoming assembly elections will be a fight between Tamil Nadu and NDA and asserted that the state should be governed from Chennai and not Delhi. “Tamil Nadu should be governed from Fort St. George,” he said while addressing a function organized to distribute welfare benefits to beneficiaries in Nagercoil. “A situation should not arise where one will be governed from Delhi. The purpose of this election is to decide that.” He also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to the state are politically motivated but said the more the Prime Minister visits Tamil Nadu, the larger the NDA’s margin of losing the election will be. “Since it is election season, the Prime Minister will visit Tamil Nadu more often and has already started doing so.” Stalin said, adding that those in the alliance were also concerned about his visits. The Chief Minister also said that the people of Tamil Nadu will remember that the Prime Minister did nothing for the state. “Even yesterday (Tuesday) the cabinet approved a metro rail project for Gujarat, but nothing for Tamil Nadu. Even with elections approaching, nothing has been allocated in the budget too,” Stalin said. Talking about the AIADMK-BJP alliance, he said the latter “is relying on a substandard engine called BJP and the BJP is relying on a sinking ship called AIADMK.”
