Lake Champlain monster ‘caught on camera’

The legendary monster of Lake Champlain in the USA has apparently been caught on camera for the first time.
The legendary monster, called Champion, has often been compared to Scotland’s Loch Ness monster after years of visible sightings in the freshwater lake stretching between the US states of New York and Vermont and as far as Quebec, Canada.
Now a pair of filmmakers, Richard Rossi and Kelly Tabor, claim to have captured footage of the Champion while filming at the lake – and they didn’t realize a Champion had been seen on camera until they reviewed their film in the editing room.
Kelly told the Daily Mail newspaper: “When I saw it it looked like a skinny neck and its body was getting bigger. The skinny neck looked like it was swaying back and forth as if it was grazing underwater. My eyes were popping out.”
The footage was taken while the duo were filming a children’s film about Champion’s mystery, Lucy and the Lake Monster, but they did not spot the monster in their footage until looking at the footage two years after they completed filming.
Kelly spotted a dark shape underwater behind the crew’s 10-foot wooden boat and called Richard to tell him.
Richard said of the meeting: “I was skeptical at first. But then during the editing process Kelly called me one day and said: ‘I’ve got the footage on my big screen TV. You should take a look at the back of the boat’… [She said]: ‘There is a large creature swimming behind the rope.'”
There have been hundreds of sightings of Champ over the years, including a photo taken by tourist Sandra Mansi in 1977 that showed the long-necked beast peering out of the water.
These observations are believed to date back to 1609, when French cartographer Samuel de Champlain, for whom the lake was named, noticed a 20-meter snake in the water with a horse-shaped head.
The mystery of the champion was later popularized by showman P. T. Barnum, who launched a hunt for the monster and offered a reward of $50,000 to anyone who managed to capture the monster.
