Ongole GRP Cracks Rs.48.5 Lakh Train Theft Case

Nellore: Ongole GRP police solved a case of grand theft from Charminar Express No. 12760, recovered stolen jewelery and luxury items worth Rs 48.10 lakh and arrested the accused within a few days.

The theft took place on November 13 in coach A-3, in which Kaliki Kodanda Rami Reddy (72), a resident of Bengaluru, lost gold, diamonds, high-end watches, Ray-Ban glasses and cash amounting to Rs.48.50 lakh.

The identity of the accused Muhammad Shakil Ahmed alias Anees Pasha (45), a resident of Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, was established through extensive analysis of CCTV footage from Ongole to Hyderabad, Kavali to Chennai and at Warangal, Nampally and Nellore stations. He was later traced to gold shops on Besant Road in Vijayawada.

Three special teams (Ongole IRP, Nellore IRP and Vijayawada RPF Crime Branch) acting under the supervision of DIG Railways Satya Yesubabu and SP Railways Rahul Dev Singh coordinated the investigation.

Ahmed was arrested at 11.30 am on November 27 and confessed to melting some of the gold in Vijayawada.

Quick coordination between GRP and RPF units led to early detection and near-complete recovery of stolen high-value property.
