Tatiana Schlossberg, JFK’s granddaughter, has terminal cancer
Schlossberg is the second daughter of Edwin Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy, who served as the US ambassador to Australia from 2022 to 2024. Kennedy announced in September last year, four months after Schlossberg’s diagnosis, that he would leave his post and return to the United States, regardless of the election results.
“All my life I have tried to be good, to be a good student, a good sister and a good daughter, to protect my mother and never upset or anger her,” Schlossberg wrote in her essay.
“Now I’ve added another tragedy to her life, to our family’s life, and there’s nothing I can do to stop it.”

Tragedy has followed the Kennedy family since John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. His brother Bobby was shot while campaigning in 1968. JFK’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr., died in a plane crash in 1999 that also killed his wife, Caroline Bessette Kennedy.
Schlossberg, an environmental journalist, is undergoing treatment including a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy and blood transfusions, and has participated in two clinical trials.
“During the last clinical trial, my doctor said it could keep me alive for maybe a year,” he wrote. “My first thought was that my children, whose faces live permanently inside my eyelids, would not remember me.”
She relies on her filmmaker sister Rose and TikTok influencer brother Jack to raise her children. Jack, who created a social media profile based on outlandish rumors, announced last week that he was running for Congress.

Schlossberg said he and his family were embarrassed that his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy, a vaccine skeptic, was running for president. Because he was receiving treatment, he was approved as secretary of the Ministry of Health.
The Trump administration cut off federal funding from Columbia University, where he received treatment at the medical center, but has since agreed to restart that treatment.
