Teens at prom begged limo driver to pull over on terrifying ride home

Some parents were outraged when the limo driver they hired to take their children to prom was arrested on his way home.

The parents say they asked the limousine company they paid to give them a full refund, and they were unhappy that their request was rejected.

The 10 young people in the limousine said they were afraid and kept begging the 71-year-old driver, Nelson Baba, to pull over.

They say he eventually did, and his parents picked them up after deputies arrested Dad for DUI and Possession of Marijuana.

“It was a crazy night,” said one teenager, who did not want to give his name. Channel 2’s Tom Jones is on Channel 2 Action News at 18.00

She says she was excited for senior prom night, but things went awry when Baba arrived an hour late to pick up the juniors. He says he got lost on his way to the Georgia Aquarium.

The young man says they immediately realized something was wrong as they left the prom.

“The moment we stepped into the limousine, the disgusting smell of weed hit our nose,” he said.

They say Baba smells of marijuana and his tongue is green. Even though he had directions on his GPS, he couldn’t find his way back to Cherokee County.

They say Baba was driving erratically. One parent said the children feared for their lives.

“We got a text around 10:30 a.m. saying these guys were going to kill us,” Kimberly O’Neill said.

The teens say they eventually pulled Baba over at the QuikTrip in Holly Springs.

“They searched the limo and found what they found,” O’Neill said.

Deputies say they found marijuana and Baba told them he bought it while the teens were at prom. He was arrested.

The parents asked the limo company for a full refund.

The owner of Price A Limo said that Baba worked for another limo company and offered to charge the teens only half the price since the first leg of the trip went as planned.

The parents say things didn’t go as planned and they never knew Baba was working for someone else. They say they are doing business with Price A Limo, not Baba.

“I hope I never meet that limo driver again, because I won’t be able to hold back. No one should have the right to endanger our children,” said parent Laura Legrand.

Deputies say Baba failed a field sobriety test and couldn’t read the alphabet.

Deputies also noted that he did not have valid certificates to operate a rental motor vehicle or drive a limousine.

Parents urge people renting limousines to do thorough research before hiring a driver. They don’t want what happened to them to happen to someone else.
