Sainsbury’s closes 61 cafes across UK in 2025 – full list | UK | News

A supermarket giant has closed its remaining 61 cafes in 2025 as part of a major shake-up. Rising prices and declining customer numbers have pushed businesses across the country to close; This situation affected both city centers and out-of-town supermarkets.
Sainsbury’s made the announcement in January, with all cafes closing on 11 April. The supermarket had previously said the decision to close cafes was due to fewer visitors and a “challenging cost environment”.
A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said in April: “In January, we shared the difficult decision to close our remaining Sainsbury’s cafes, which will take place on 11 April. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause. Our stores continue to support the customers and communities they serve in a variety of ways, including fundraising, volunteering and donations to good causes. We are exploring future opportunities for the space and encouraging our colleagues and customers to do so.” We will continue to keep it afloat. updated.”
Sainsbury’s chief executive Simon Roberts has previously said the retailer faces a “challenging cost environment”. He explained: “The decisions we have announced today are crucial to ensuring we continue to carry our momentum forward. But they have also meant some difficult choices affecting our dedicated colleagues across various parts of our business. We will do everything we can to support everyone affected by today’s announcements.”
The latest cuts come after Sainsbury’s confirmed 3,000 jobs would be cut from its headquarters earlier this year. The supermarket said jobs were cut to make things easier.
Sainsbury’s is also closing all remaining bakeries, bakeries, steakhouses and pizza counters in its major branches. Some products in these sections will be moved to other areas of the supermarket.
