Man arrested on suspicion of failing to disclose information about Manchester synagogue attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to disclose information about terrorist activities as part of an investigation into a terror attack on a synagogue in Manchester last year, police said.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement that officers arrested the 49-year-old man at an address in Salford on Tuesday evening. The suspect, the eighth person arrested in connection with the attack, is being held in custody for questioning.

The arrest is directly related to the attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Community Synagogue on October 2 last year, which left Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, dead and three others seriously injured.

Knifemaker Jihad Al-Shamie was shot by police officers after the incident. The 35-year-old was wearing a vest that resembled an “explosive device” (which was later found to be “not applicable”) during the attack in which multiple people were stabbed.

Tuesday’s arrest brings the total number of people arrested in connection with the investigation to eight, police said.

These include a 30-year-old man who was arrested in October last year on suspicion of failing to disclose information about terrorist activities and is under investigation.

They include a man who has since been charged with terrorism offenses not directly linked to the attack.

Assistant chief constable Rob Potts, who has operational responsibility for North West Counter Terrorism Policing, said loved ones of Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz had been informed of the arrest and urged anyone with any information about the attack to come forward.

“This evening we arrested a 49-year-old man in the Salford area on suspicion of failing to disclose information relating to terrorist activities contrary to S38B of the Terrorism Act 2000,” he said.

“The suspected offense is directly related to the terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Community Synagogue in October. Loved ones of Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz, as well as those seriously injured in the attack, have been informed of this latest development.

“We remain unwavering in our determination to uncover the full picture behind the attack and get answers for those affected, including the local community. We are prepared to act quickly and decisively where we suspect criminal offenses may have occurred.

“Our investigation is ongoing and I would urge anyone with information that could assist us to please contact police.”
