Teacher admits sex crimes after kissing student and sending him thousands of texts | World | News

A former teacher has admitted sexual offenses involving a 15-year-old student after sending her thousands of messages and kissing and touching her. Jamelah Daboubi, 28, pleaded guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition of a minor and unlawful sexual conduct at a hearing in February.

On April 2, 2025, police were called to Salado Creek Drive in Columbus, Ohio, USA, where a woman told officers she found her niece in her car with one of her teachers. The boy said he had a relationship with his teacher and that it involved kissing and touching.

The Franklin County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Daboubi, a former teacher at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, taught the student in one of his 10th grade classes.

During police interrogation, the victim said the couple texted, talked on the phone and also engaged in sexual activity.

When detectives searched the boy’s phone, they found hundreds of conversations and thousands of messages between the boy and his teacher.

Daboubi no longer works at Horizon Science Academy and is expected to be sentenced at a later date.

The amended charges of gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct on a minor carry a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

The court recommended he be sentenced to five years of community control, continued counseling, surrender of his teaching license and community service.

As part of his plea, Daboubi must also register as a sex offender.
