Deal or no deal pandering to ‘The King’. What’s the scam?

Anthony Albanese goes to Washington and signs a “deal” with Donald Trump, who publicly belittles our Ambassador. What is fraud?

The scam is that – apart from the spectacle, Rudd’s distractions and the cost of the weapons Australia will pay – there is too much fuss and too little substance; fictitious benefits mostly go to the United States.

Not even a fine print, just Press release from the White House.

First, the Export-Import Bank of the United States issues “Interest Letters” totaling $2.2 billion. A letter of interest means stupidly stunted; It’s a term most often associated with people who send unsolicited job offers to companies they want to work for. Letters of interest… Not even a Memorandum of Understanding.

Second, the US War Department (sic!) will invest in the construction of an advanced 100 metric tonnes per annum gallium refinery in Western Australia, further enhancing “critical mineral processing self-reliance”. Although it is not specified whose self-confidence or the amount of investment is at stake, suffice it to say that China accounts for more than 90% of the world’s gallium production.

Gallium is used in semiconductors and electronics; It’s not a huge industry, but the US is rapidly losing its hegemony.

Finally, apart from the chatter about AUKUS and other weapons systems that Australia has already committed to pay for, and the US beef that we Aussies don’t want to eat, here’s the real “participant”:

  • Australia’s superannuation funds will increase investments in the US to $1.44 trillion by 2035; This represents an increase of almost $1 trillion from current levels.
    • This unprecedented investment includes tens of thousands of new, High-paying jobs for Americans. (emphasis ours)

Rest assured, Australian Superfunds boards are not meeting today to consider this completely empty announcement. That’s not how the investment world works and Albanians need to know better. We know Trump didn’t do this.
