Teen accused of stabbing pregnant woman more than 70 times naps in police car

An Illinois teenager accused of stabbing a pregnant woman more than 70 times, setting her on fire and stabbing her dog between the eyes appeared eerily calm and relaxed hours after the murder and before appearing to try to take a nap while in the back of a police vehicle taking him to jail.

Nedas Revuckas, 19, pleaded not guilty this week to the stabbing deaths of 30-year-old Eliza Morales and her unborn child in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove on Jan. 26.

Revuckas allegedly stabbed Morales, who was five months pregnant at the time, before setting her home on fire.

The attack originated from a Facebook Marketplace transaction. Prosecutors said Revuckas was allegedly upset after purchasing a 1994 red Ford Ranger pickup truck that was on Morales’ husband’s list and was upset about the vehicle’s condition.

He arranged to meet at the couple’s apartment to return the plates and collect the bill of sale. fox chicago reported.

During the attack, Revuckas also stabbed the family dog ​​between its eyes, prosecutors said. Surveillance video showed him meeting with Morales and Morales at one point handing Revuckas a screwdriver.

About five minutes later, he entered the building with a screwdriver in his hand, and the video shows the door to Morales’ unit opening and closing during what investigators say was a struggle inside.

Police body camera video shows officers arriving at the teen’s home several hours after the murder. During his interview with authorities, he appeared calm as he spoke to officers. He appeared to speak calmly and was not aggressive or afraid.

He initially claimed that Morales did not enter his apartment.

“I didn’t walk past the dinner table,” he told police with his hands on his hips, according to the video.

He later confessed to the murder, prosecutors said.

Revuckas said the car he bought for $1,600 was running “somewhat” fine. He said he was unaware of the fire in the apartment and that the dog was “fine.”

“He was kind of sitting in the corner,” she said of the pet.

Following his arrest, Revuckas was sitting in the back of a police cruiser, where he appeared sleepy.

“Can you tell me what this is about?” he asked.

At one point he put his feet up and tried to take a nap.

The teenager faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, premeditated murder of an unborn child, animal cruelty, armed robbery and arson.
