Teen charged with indecent dealing after allegedly trying to lure boy from Koondoola park
A Perth teenager has been charged with a sexual offense after trying to lure a teenage boy away from a northern suburbs park at the weekend.
Police said they charged the 14-year-old boy with two counts of indecent intercourse with a child under 13 and two counts of deprivation of liberty after Saturday’s incident.
The 11-year-old victim was allegedly playing basketball at Butterworth Park in Koondoola at around 5pm when the teenager allegedly tried to pull him away from the reserve.
The boy tried to get help from a group of people nearby and police said the teenager then followed him as he walked down an alley towards Waddington Crescent.
The boy eventually managed to escape.
A WA police spokesman said on Monday the teenager had been charged by the child abuse squad over the incident and will appear in Perth Children’s Court on Tuesday.
“Child Abuse Squad detectives take care of parents, caregivers and community members,
“Children are in public places such as aquatic centres, playgrounds and sports fields,” they said.
“Close supervision and simple safety conversations can help reduce risk.”
