The family of a little boy who was allegedly raped by a private school official was outraged after the attacker was released on bail. The alleged attack on the three-year-old girl took place at Janakpuri in west Delhi on April 30, just two days after the child was admitted to the nursery, police said.

The girl’s mother reported the incident the next day and claimed that her daughter returned home in pain. When the boy was questioned, he identified the babysitter and said he took him to a secluded part of the school. The defendant was arrested on May 1 and placed in judicial custody, but was released on bail despite strong opposition from prosecutors.

Police confirmed that the school’s security camera footage was reviewed as part of the investigation.

The girl’s mother said she blamed the authorities for not taking immediate action and that her family was kept waiting at the police station for hours during questioning.

He also claimed that a teacher was interrogated but not taken further responsibility.

Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the bail decision. He said: “Imagine a child is accepted into a private school and returns home on the first day, only to find his parents have discovered that a 57-year-old babysitter has raped the child.”

He also claimed that police officials threatened the family instead of helping them.

The police responded to the allegations and immediately claimed that they were conducting the investigation themselves.

Authorities said in their statement: “During the investigation, the defendant was immediately arrested the same day after the victim was identified.

“The victim’s statement was also recorded before the court and relevant CCTV/DVR footage and other exhibits were seized as per law.”

The statement stated that the investigation was conducted “in an impartial, fair and professional manner” using forensic analysis, scientific evidence and witness statements.

The court also emphasized that the child was provided with a “comfortable, child-friendly environment” during the trial and rejected the allegations of intimidation as “false, unfounded and contrary to the facts”.

The detailed bail decision is being reviewed and further legal remedies are being considered, officials said.
