“Why are you giving me four burger sauces? I asked for three garlic and three mayonnaise.”

Kadir then takes out the imitation firearm, cocks it and shouts: “I’m going to kill you now, are you crazy?”

Police said officers identified Khadir through CCTV and financial surveillance, as well as local resident checks between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

He was arrested by armed police on January 2, and officers seized the replica gun he used in the attack, as well as fake ammunition.

Detective Sergeant Amy Cross, who led the investigation, said: “The tireless work of officers on this case over the Christmas and New Year period is further evidence that the police never stopped and their efforts ultimately resulted in a conviction.

“All our thoughts remain with the victim of this horrific ordeal that no one should ever have to go through, let alone the workplace. “The strength he has shown since the attack has been remarkable.

“Moreover, the courage he showed in coming forward and reporting the attack was incredibly brave. He was subsequently able to identify the perpetrator, a crucial moment that allowed us to progress the investigation.”

Khadir pleaded guilty at Woolwich Crown Court on January 30 to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to create fear of violence, making threats to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
