Teenager arrested after two women killed and boy fighting for life after crash

Two women died and a nine-year-old boy struggled for his life in the accident that occurred on the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire border.
Police were called to a collision between a Vauxhall Meriva and a Suzuki Alto on Common Lane in Pleasley at around 6.20am on Thursday. Officers arrested an 18-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Two women in their twenties who were passengers in the Suzuki were pronounced dead at the scene. Derbyshire Police said a nine-year-old boy who was a passenger in the same vehicle was also taken to hospital with a life-threatening condition.
Three men in the Vauxhall were also injured, two seriously, according to police.
Officers are currently appealing for information and have appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the collision or has information that could help further the investigation.
In a statement, police said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and information following the death of two people in a collision in Pleasley.
“The collision involving an Opel Meriva and a Suzuki Alto occurred on Common Lane at around 6.20am on Thursday, November 27.
It was announced that two women in their 20s who were in the Suzuki died at the scene. Their families are aware and our thoughts are with them. A nine-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Suzuki was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.
“Three people in Vauxhall were also injured, two seriously.
“An 18-year-old male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital and taken to his place of residence due to the injuries he received in the collision.
“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision and has any information.”
