Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao on Friday, May 15, 2026, directed the officials to expedite the land acquisition process, provide connectivity and develop amenities related to the proposed high-speed rail corridors approved to the State.

The extent of land required was discussed at a review meeting held by the Chief Secretary on the land needed for rail depots and three high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad to Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. Representatives of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Railways officials and GMR Airport attended the meeting held in Hyderabad on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Railway officials announced that the detailed project report (DPR) for the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai high-speed rail corridor, which includes infrastructure recommendations for the 671 km long line, is ready. Accordingly, land acquisition will be required on the 93-kilometer route in Telangana.

Officials said that 123 km of land should be acquired for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai corridors and requested the State Government to purchase the necessary lands to establish railway depots in Kokapet and Shamshabad.

The officials have been instructed to prepare detailed proposals for the project, which is a joint venture between the State Government and the Railway Ministry, and work in coordination in preparing and executing project reports.

With the Center approving the high-speed rail corridor connecting Hyderabad to Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru, the scope for developing economic corridors in line with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision has increased significantly.

The project will have a cascading effect that will lead to the development of the industrial, IT and tourism sectors, as well as contributing to the future needs of the people.

The Chief Secretary directed the Roads and Buildings department to coordinate with HMDA, GMR Airport and Railway authorities in the process.
