A well -known NRI industrialist, philanthropist and founder of Caparo Group Lord Swraj Paul passed away at the age of 94.

His death pointed out the end of an extraordinary journey spread in sectors such as business, public service and philanthropy in both India and the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief against his death and stressed Paul’s lifetime contributions. In a mission in X, Prime Minister Paul remembered his interactions with Paul and praised his efforts to strengthen India-Uk ties. “Shri Swaraj was deeply upset with the passing of Paul Ji. In the UK, industry, philanthropy and contributions to public service, and unchanging support for closer ties with India. His condolences for his family and fans.


Paul’s Journey of Business and Philanthropy

Swraj Paul, who was born in Jalandhar in 1931, moved to England and founded the Caparo Group in 1968.

Under its leadership, it has become an important business with its interests in steel, engineering and related sectors. His success in the business world was matched with philanthropy and passion for public service.

He accepted his success and honored the Indian government with Padma Bhushan, one of the country’s highest civilian awards in 1983.

Beyond the work, Paul had worked to establish stronger ties between India and England.

In 1975, he founded the Indo-British Association and served as president to encourage better understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

Paul’s influence reflected the increasing power of the Indian diaspora in England. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indian community in the UK is one of the largest ethnic groups and is about 1.9 million people according to the 2021 census.

Indians make up about 2.6 percent of the British population of 68 million.

According to a report by Grant Thornton and Ficci, Diaspora contributed significantly to the British economy with more than 65,000 enterprises owned by Indian origin.

Lord Swraj Paul’s life symbolized the bond between India and England and will continue through business initiatives and philanthropist initiatives.
