Telangana Will Establish India’s First Ne Annexe

Hyderabad:Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the state government will set up a special ‘North-East Annex’ in the upcoming Bharat Future City, where land will be given to northeastern states to build their own bhavans and cultural, commercial and institutional representation will be possible in Telangana.

Speaking at ‘Telangana-NorthEast Connectivity: A techno-cultural festival’, the Prime Minister said that the annex building will be the first of its kind in India. Each of the eight Northeastern states (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) will be allotted space to construct their own buildings along with hostels, food courts, handicraft exhibition areas, art and cultural exhibition venues.

Cultural ties between Telangana and northeastern states have strengthened in recent years, Revanth Reddy said, noting that Tripura and Telangana have leaders with inter-state associations in governorship roles – Governor Jishnu Dev Varma is from Tripura. This relationship must continue, he said, and the proposed annex will serve as a long-term institutional bridge between the regions.

While Revanth Reddy highlighted the rich ecological, cultural and ethnic diversity of the northeast, he also acknowledged that the region’s contributions are often underrepresented nationally. He said he understood the identity concerns of the northeastern communities of Telangana, drawing parallels with the once-apparent lack of recognition of south Indians in the northern states.

The Prime Minister said a large number of people from the northeast have made Hyderabad their home and are achieving success in software, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism, hospitality, startups and sports, contributing to local growth. Terming Telangana as a “second home” for them, he thanked those who integrated with local communities while preserving their cultural identity.

Revanth Reddy called for deeper cultural, economic and mobility ties with the northeast, stating that improved connectivity will help the region play an even greater role in national development. He added that the state aims to take the goals of Telangana Emerging Vision 2047 to every part of India and the world and aims to get support from communities in the regions.

He said that the festival symbolizes unity and common aspirations and marks the beginning of long-term interaction between Telangana and the northeast.
