Club stabbing accused remains in hospital, court told

A kitchen worker who allegedly stalked and stabbed a waiter at a busy league club failed to appear in court days after bosses tackled him.

Cameron William Leslie Clark, 33, was charged with attempted murder after being accused of attacking his 20-year-old female colleague in front of shocked onlookers.

Clark allegedly stabbed a waiter multiple times and injured two others at the Easts Leagues Club in Brisbane on Thursday before being “attacked” by league club bosses and staff.

He was due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday after his February 13 hearing was postponed due to him being in hospital.

Judge Joseph Pinder heard Clark was again unable to attend the hearing on Monday because he was still in hospital.

“He stays there and has surgery on his hand,” the police prosecutor said.

Police allege Clark was told he had been kicked out of the club at 2pm on Thursday for showing “unwanted and unwanted attention” to the waiter.

He allegedly returned about three hours later with a large carving knife and attacked the woman while dozens of people were eating.

“He was confronted in a corridor with little chance of escape,” Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters.

Police said a 61-year-old cook came to her aid and was stabbed in the hip, giving the woman time to escape to the main dining area, where customers and staff helped her.

“Unfortunately the chief’s interactions only slowed the offender’s progress,” Supt Massingham said.

The man allegedly followed the woman and attacked her again in the crowded dining area, causing defensive wounds on the woman’s hands and 10cm cuts on her head and wrist.

A 41-year-old female patron suffered a hand injury when up to eight people pressured the man and held him down until police arrived minutes later.

Clark was also charged with stalking, unlawful wounding and being armed to create fear, along with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

The police prosecutor requested a one-week adjournment to allow time for Clark to be transferred from the hospital to the police station.

“This will give us a better idea,” Mr. Pinder said.

Clark was taken into custody to appear in court Friday.
