In line with the vision of transforming India into a global aviation hub, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which is being built at a cost of approximately Rs 19,650 billion.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is India’s largest Greenfield airport project developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP). NMIA, the second international airport of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, will work with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to reduce congestion and elevate Mumbai to the global league of multi-airport systems. Designed to be among the most efficient airports in the world with an area of 1160 Ha, the airport will eventually serve 90 million passengers (MPPA) and 3.25 million metric tons of cargo per year.
Its unique offerings include the Automated People Mover (APM), a public transportation system planned to connect all four passenger terminals for seamless inter-terminal transfers, and a landside APM connecting city-side infrastructure. In line with sustainable practices, the airport will feature dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), approximately 47 MW of solar power generation, and EV bus services for public connectivity across the city. NMIA will also be the first airport in the country to be connected by Water Taxi.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3, which runs from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade and is being constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 12,200 billion. However, Mumbai will dedicate its entire Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) to the country at a total cost of over Rs 37,270 billion, marking a major milestone in the city’s urban transport transformation. As Mumbai’s first and only fully underground metro line, this project will redefine commuting across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and provide millions of residents with a faster, more efficient and modern public transport solution.
Mumbai Metro Line 3, which stretches 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR with 27 stations, will serve 13 lakh passengers per day. The final Phase 2B of the project will provide seamless connectivity to South Mumbai’s heritage and cultural districts such as Fort, Kala Ghoda and Marine Drive, as well as direct access to important administrative and financial centers such as Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Nariman Point. Metro Line-3 is designed to provide effective integration with other modes of transportation, including railways, airports, other metro lines and monorail services, thereby improving last-mile connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the metropolitan area.
The Prime Minister will also launch “Mumbai One”, an Integrated Joint Mobility Application for 11 Public Transport Operators (PTOs) in Metro, Monorail, Suburban railways and Bus PTOs. These include Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7, Mumbai Metro Line 3, Mumbai Metro Line 1, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, Mumbai Suburban Rail, Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), Thane Municipal Transport, Mira Bhayander Municipal Transport, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Transport and Navi Mumbai There is Municipal Transportation.
