Terence Crawford retirement: American boxing great ends career at 38

Steve Bunce, BBC Radio 5 Live boxing commentator

Terence Crawford isn’t the first fighter to suddenly disappear while at his peak.

And guess what — wait — he won’t be the first fighter to suddenly return after disappearing. I think he will come back.

And there is a big problem; When you’re Terence Crawford and your last fight was defeating the great Saul Canelo Alvarez outdoors in Las Vegas in front of 70,000 people, that’s a huge accomplishment.

But moreover, he earned millions and millions and millions for it.

From now on, even if it’s $10 million, it’s really hard to fight for 10 percent or half of that. If you earned 30, 40 or 50, 10 million is not a lot of money.

So will he come back? I think so too.

If he remains retired, it will be one of the biggest retirements in boxing history.

Undefeated, champion at all these weights, untouchable, amazing and off he goes. This is what I want to see.
