The Bombay High Court on Monday, February 9, 2026, granted bail to Akashdeep Karaj Singh, accused of the murder of Congress leader and former MLA Baba Siddique, becoming the first person to receive relief in the case.
Chief Justice Neela Gokhale directed Singh, a resident of Punjab, not to leave Mumbai until the hearing in the case is over.

Siddique (66) was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra East area on the night of October 12, 2024.
Mr Singh (22), who was arrested in November 2024, became the first accused in the case to be granted bail.
In his bail plea, the accused claimed that he was involved in the case and that the allegations made against him were false and vague.
Mr Singh claimed that he was only accused of being a member of an organized crime group and that no specific role was attributed to him in the present case.
He also contended that the trial in the case would not start in the near future, and said incarceration without trial was violative of his fundamental rights.
In January this year, police filed a chargesheet in the case naming Anmol Bishnoi, brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, as the wanted accused.

According to the prosecution, Anmol Bishnoi hatched a conspiracy to kill Siddique in order to create fear and dominance over the criminal organisation.
Police arrested 26 people in the case and booked them under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). They are currently under judicial custody.
