Cruise ship carrying British tourists circling Barbados after Trump’s Venezuela operation | World | News

A cruise ship carrying British tourists is floating “in limbo” in Barbados after Donald Trump invaded Venezuela. Holidaymakers on the P&O cruise ship Arvia set sail from Barbados on 2 January 2025 and were due to dock in Martinique today before heading to St Kitts, the British Virgin Islands and further destinations.
But due to military action in Venezuela, passengers on the ship claim they went no further than 30 miles from shore and returned to Barbados THREE times (including today (6)) to pick up passengers whose flights had been canceled or delayed.
Lizzy Meadowcroft, 56, and her partner Mark Crowther, from Morecambe, Lancashire, said the ship was now docked in Barbados for the third time and would remain there until 7pm local time this evening before heading to St Lucia.
After the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration ordered planes to avoid parts of the Caribbean in the wake of military action, many passengers who were supposed to be on the cruise were unable to reach the ship.
Lizzy said: “We are disappointed that the communication was not excellent.
“First it was said that the delays were due to weather conditions, then it was said that there was a problem with the plane, and now it is said that it was caused by Trump.
“We would make sure our father knew the truth from the very beginning.
“We are now back in Barbados wondering if Trump will bomb Venezuela again or if other countries will get involved.
“The feeling on board is not good, we are all disappointed as we saved a lot of money for the holiday.”
A P&O spokesperson said: “Following the disruption and impact caused by international air restrictions on Saturday, all P&O Cruises guests on the Arvia Caribbean cruise holiday have now had confirmed flight details to and from Barbados.
“P&O Cruises worked tirelessly over the weekend with our charter carriers to operate new flights for a total of 5,000 arriving and departing guests.
“Future ports of call and itinerary are being prioritized and communicated to all guests on board, so they can now continue with their planned holidays.”
