Security apparatus has been put on alert in Jammu and Kashmir as Union Home Minister Amit Shah begins his two-day tour in the Union Territory (UT) starting on Friday, February 6, 2025. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) underlined the need to “heal the wounds of J&K youth”.
Mr. Shah arrived in Jammu on Thursday, February 5, 2026, where he was received by LG Manoj Sinha and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Mr. Shah will chair a security review meeting in Jammu on Friday, February 6, 2026, officials said. There has been an increase in terror-related incidents in some parts of Jammu region. Security forces carried out two successful counter-terrorism operations in Kishtwar and Udhampur; Increased aerial activity was also observed along the Line of Control (LoC).
Mr. Shah is scheduled to tour the International Border (IB) and outposts of the Border Security Force in Bobia and Gurnam in Jammu. He will also meet family members of the deceased security personnel. Relatives of such staff will be given formal notice regarding government jobs under the administration’s compassionate employment policy, officials said.

‘Things are not normal in J&K’
Senior Congress leader and legislator Tariq Hameed Karra said Mr Shah’s frequent visits to J&K were “an indication that things are not normal in J&K”.
“Mr. Shah comes and assesses the situation. He then states that everything is normal and under control. The truth is that eight districts have been affected by the militants in three months. The militants attack on their own accord and the clashes last for 10 to 12 days. However, the Center claims that the situation is normal,” Karra said.
Meanwhile, security has been increased across the Union Territory. Official sources stated that search and searches at critical points have been intensified in the last 24 hours.
heal wounds
Opposition PDP MP Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra said Mr Shah’s visit was “a good opportunity to both promote the development and heal the wounds of the youth in J&K”.
“J&K needs sustained engagement with the youth. They need healing from the wounds caused by years of conflict and uncertainty,” Mr. Parra said.
The PDP legislator said Mr Shah’s political support was “essential to restore confidence among the youth in the area”. “I expect Mr. Shah’s visit to go beyond official reviews and translate into concrete steps that meet the aspirations of young people and ensure inclusive development,” he added.
