Thailand: At least 22 killed after construction crane crushes passenger train

At least 22 people died and dozens were injured when a construction crane fell on a moving train in Thailand.
At the time of the incident, the train carrying 195 passengers was leaving Bangkok, the capital of the country, and heading towards the northeast of the country.
A construction crane being used to build a high-speed elevated railway crashed into train cars around 10 a.m. AWST on Wednesday.
Reports from local authorities say the accident resulted in the train derailing and catching fire.
The fire has since been extinguished, but rescue teams have confirmed that 22 people died as a result of the crash.
The BBC reported that 79 passengers were injured, eight of whom were seriously injured.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescuers continue to pull bodies from the train wreckage.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phipat Ratchakitprakarn ordered a “thorough and comprehensive” investigation into the cause behind the accident.
Thai authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were foreign nationals on the train.
More to come.
