Tharoor-Led Parliamentary Panel Brings “360-Degree” Perspective to India–China Relations

New Delhi: A parliamentary panel on Wednesday discussed India-China relations and took a “360-degree view” on issues such as trade, border issues, strategic concerns and the way forward.

A large number of unofficial witnesses and experts appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, and presented their views and suggestions on Sino-India relations.

Tharoor said very high quality evidence has been provided by experts and people with a lot of experience on China.

“We’re really trying to expand our understanding of the issues in this relationship before we write the report,” he said, recalling that the panel’s discussions remained confidential.

When asked whether the committee discussed India’s current relations with China, the Congress leader said all issues were discussed in the meeting.

Tharoor said they discussed the border, trade relations, strategic concerns and China’s presence in the neighbourhood.

“As you can imagine, there is no issue that is not in the interest of the committee. We have looked at India-China relations from 360 degrees,” he said.

When asked about the way forward, Tharoor said, “We have taken their suggestions, we will see how we can move forward.”
