‘That’s a Little Creepy!’ Senate Democrat Has Fiery Clash With Republican After He Says He Tracked Democrats’ Cars
Sens. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Bernie Moreno (R-OH) had a tense debate over the shutdown on Wednesday, with Moreno apparently trying to claim Rosen was a hypocrite by following his car. The shouting took place during a Senate Commerce Committee meeting on transportation secretary nominees.
Moreno told the committee: “Would it surprise you if I took the VIN numbers of each of my Democratic colleagues’ vehicles and learned that none of them had purchased any of the additional safety technology in their cars?” He added:
So when you’re actually buying a car with your own money, you’re not buying the technology, but we’re sitting here saying it should be made mandatory for everyone’s cars, and as a result we’ve almost doubled the price of cars in the last 10 years.
He later added: “As someone who’s been here 10 months, I think what we just saw is classic Washington DC. In other words, the car I drive should be safe. The car my staff drives? Who cares about them? I get your paycheck.”
Rosen jumped in surprise, “I object to you following my car and my personnel to find chassis numbers that I will present to this committee. Why are you doing this? What are you going to do with them? This is an invasion of our privacy.”
“If you came and asked me for my chassis number, I would tell you what’s in my car,” Moreno said, adding, “It’s visible from the outside of the car.”
“So you went and followed me to see who was driving me and wrote down their chassis numbers. You interrupted me. You attacked me. You watched me go to see who was driving me, you wrote down their chassis numbers to find out what they had. That seems a little creepy! That’s a…” Rosen said as Moreno interjected:
Just to expose the hypocrisy, for example, you walk by even though you have a paycheck – You get it – You have a paycheck.
Rosen he replied, “I donate my paychecks, sir, and I would gladly accept the law of not giving it away…”
“What about your staff? What do you call them? What do TSA people say? What do they call air traffic controllers?” Moren was enraged.
Rosen raised his voice and fired back, “I’m telling you this, my friend, this is a Republican shutdown. You have control of the White House, you have control of the House, and you have control of the Senate. And if you go home to a food bank instead of going to Mar-a-Lago for a gold-plated dinner while people are starving, you can see and hear your constituents, sir. You are blind to the suffering of your people!”
Moreno then asked the question: “Is this necessary? 60 votes?!”
Rosen responded, “You need to listen and come to the table. If you want to get this, come talk to me privately.”
