Vår Energi discovers oil at Goliat North well offshore Norway

Vår Energi announced that it has made an oil discovery in the Goliat North exploration well, located approximately 5 km north of Norway’s Goliat field in the Barents Sea.

The well, also known as 7122/7-8, was drilled on production license 229 using the COSL Prospector drilling rig.

It is owned by the partnership between Vår Energi (65%) and Equinor (35%).

Hydrocarbons well encountered in the Realgrunnen and Kobbe formations and estimated gross recoverable resources of up to five million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe).

According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, preliminary analysis showed 400,000-800,000 standard cubic meters of recoverable oil equivalent.

The Goliat North well encountered an 8 m gas/oil column with a total of 6.5 m of reservoir rocks in the Tubåen formation within the Realgrunnen subgroup.

Gas/oil contact was found at a depth of 1,255 m above sea level, and no oil/water contact was encountered.

A 6 m gas/oil column with a gas/oil contact at 1,285 m below sea level and an oil/water contact at 1,290 m below sea level was also detected in the Fruholmen formation.

In the Kobbe formation, a 17 m oil column was found in 12 m reservoir rocks with oil/water contact at 2,048 m below sea level.

The well was not subjected to formation testing, but extensive data collection and sampling was done.

It was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,197 m and terminated in the Kobbe formation in the Middle Triassic at a water depth of 409 m. It was permanently closed and abandoned.

The Goliat North well is part of the Goliat Ridge appraisal drilling program.

Vår Energi and Equinor plan to drill four wells in the area, with the Zagato branch line currently under construction.

Following completion of the evaluation campaign, the partners plan to evaluate the overall potential of Goliat Ridge.

They plan to combine data from the drilling program with newly acquired three-dimensional seismic data.

In July this year, Vår Energi, together with its partners, announced a significant gas/condensate increase. discovery In the Vidsyn region in the Norwegian Sea.
