2 women charred to death in fire at chemical factory; one injured

Dense smoke and hazardous conditions created significant difficulties in the rescue operation. After the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel entered the charred remains of the god and found the bodies of two women trapped inside.

The fire, which broke out at dusk, was caused by a large amount of paint thinner.

Indore was rocked by a tragic incident on Saturday evening when a massive fire broke out in the “chemical depot” located in the industrial area under Rau police station, resulting in the death of two women and injuries to one person. The fire, which broke out at dusk, was caused by large quantities of thinner (a highly flammable solvent commonly used in the paint and chemical industries) stored at the facility. According to the statement of police officials, fire crews intervened quickly, but it took about an hour and a half to bring the fire under control due to the intensity of the flames and the presence of volatile chemicals.

Dense smoke and hazardous conditions created significant difficulties in the rescue operation. After the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel entered the charred remains of the god and found the bodies of two women trapped inside. These people were identified as Ramkali (50) and Jyoti Neem (34). The third person, Suraj Bhagnani (34), sustained burn injuries on both hands and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1 (Indore) Krishna Lalchandani told IANS that when the fire broke out, the victims might have performed Ekadashi puja by lighting an earthen lamp near the stored thinner. “The material caught fire and caused an inferno that claimed two lives,” he said.

It was stated that the initial investigation revealed that the building was rented by a person named Bhaiyalal Mukati. Although the area is often referred to as a factory, police are yet to confirm whether it operated as a manufacturing unit or simply a storage area. Authorities are now investigating whether the facility had the necessary licenses to store such hazardous materials and whether negligence played a role in the incident.

Residents of the area reported that they heard loud noises and saw dense smoke clouds rising from the area, which caused panic in the area. While many surrounding units were evacuated as a precaution, no other injuries were reported. Authorities assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future.
